Domes: The future of secure, sustainable data centers

Dome Technology’s steel-reinforced concrete domes offer a resilient, energy-efficient alternative to traditional data-center construction. The monolithic, insulated shell dramatically improves thermal performance and boasts physical security and operational flexibility.

Cooling systems account for up to 40 percent of a conventional data center’s energy use. Dome structures address this challenge through an airtight thermal envelope made of concrete and polyurethane insulation, significantly reducing heat transfer and cooling demand. The concrete’s high thermal mass functions as a thermal battery, absorbing heat during peak periods and releasing it during off-peak hours or enabling free cooling at night. Integrated hydronic cooling systems can further reduce reliance on traditional HVAC.

Structurally, the seamless dome eliminates weak points, resists extreme weather events, and can meet ICC-500 and seismic standards. Inside, the column-free design allows flexible layouts and airflow optimization. With minimal maintenance requirements and reduced material waste, dome construction delivers lower PUE, long-term cost savings, and exceptional reliability.
